People Counting Technology

Time of Flight (ToF) technology has made the analytics of people counting that much more insightful for strategic planning, in addition to keeping control of potential crowd situations where staff alerts or extra care initiatives may need to be actioned.

Line crossing is the point of count, and this is a predefined area typically at an entrance or in a corridor type environment.  What’s new about this technology is that it counts people in either direction, so either heading out or heading in.  This provides real time people flow statistics.

Optimise Operations

A ToF based sensor with an active ToF light source works effectively in the traffic circulation environment typical of a railway station.  It will count passengers getting on or off in real time, providing data for optimising operation.  Data such as peak hours, crowded or light carriages, seasonality, impact of local events.  Adjustments can be made to in the everyday running of the service.

How it works

The 3D ToF People Counting Sensor communicates via a LoRaWAN Gateway to the IoT cloud or via a PoE switch to a TMS or TCMS.

Benefits summary

  1. Wireless deployment with low power consumption
  2. 3D ToF technology increases accuracy rate to 99.5% due to 3D depth information
  3. The active ToF light source provides accurate detection even in completely dark environments
  4. High capacity storage of a data locally
  5. ToF principle is the power behind accurate, anonymous people counting
  6. GDPR-compliant, 3D depth information with no PII.
  7. Counts people in and out concurrently for accurate and more objective information.
